Safe Exam Browser (SEB) is a free, open-source project sponsored by the Swiss National Research and Education Network and ETH Board.
Safe Exam Browser provides increased security around the taking of assessments on computers where it is installed by preventing students from accessing other websites or programs while the exam is in progress. SEB must first be installed on the user’s computer, prior to taking the assessment.
Currently eBackpack supports SEB versions 2.0.3 - 2.1.3 on Windows and versions 2.0 - 2.1 on Mac.
Safe Exam Browser must be installed by a computer administrator and is available for download here.
eBackpack currently supports a “Basic Security” mode for SEB which requires no configuration of the SEB program on the students’ computers after SEB has been installed. Please let us know if there are additional SEB features you would like exposed.
To configure an assessment for use of SEB, simply enable the “Use Safe Exam Browser for taking assessment.” option in the Assessment Editor, as seen below:
WARNING: While this setting is enabled, students will ONLY be able to complete the assessment from a Windows or Mac computer that has SEB installed. Tablets, phones, and computers without SEB available will be locked out of the assessment.
